The student editors of The Amistad invite the Howard University community to submit creative work that calls attention to the ways we look at ourselves for sustenance and grassroots inspiration. The Spring 2025 issue draws upon the historic legacy of the Black Arts Movement and invokes the sisterhood it had with the Black Power Movement, mobilizing the culture through Africana-centric and ancestrally reverent expressions of consciousness. We seek literary and visual art in a collective call to Revolution, an aesthetic and perspective that liberates our people. Submissions will not be accepted after February 14, 2025.

• Poetry: 3-5 poems (no more than seven pages total)

• Fiction: 5,000 words, maximum 

• Flash Fiction: 1000 words

• Essays: 2000 words

• Visual Art: All art is welcomed, but it must be submitted as a high resolution JPEG. Include the title of the work, year created, and a short description. Please submit no more than 5 pieces.
